Infection Prevention Week 2026:
Past, Present, Protected
Topdental and Bossklein proudly support Infection Prevention Week 2026, celebrating the importance of infection control in protecting patients, healthcare professionals and communities.
Infection prevention has never been more important. From everyday clinical hygiene to the ongoing challenge of healthcare-associated infections, effective infection control plays a vital role in delivering safer healthcare.
At Topdental, manufacturer of the Bossklein Complete Hygiene Solutions range, infection prevention is at the heart of what we do. We are proud to support International Infection Prevention Week (IIPW) 2026, taking place from 19th to 25th October.
This year’s theme, Generations of Infection Prevention, with the message “Past. Present. Protected.” celebrates the history of preventing infections, the scientific advances that have transformed healthcare and the professionals continuing this essential work today.
The history of infection prevention
The history of infection prevention is a story of discovery, innovation and progress. Before the science of germ theory was understood, infections were often attributed to environmental factors, while early measures such as quarantine helped limit the spread of disease.
During the 19th century, pioneers including Ignaz Semmelweis demonstrated the importance of hand hygiene, while Florence Nightingale led the way in environmental hygiene. The work of Louis Pasteur further advanced our understanding of microorganisms, transforming approaches to preventing infection.
These discoveries laid the foundations for modern infection control, which combines effective hand hygiene, cleaning and disinfection, appropriate instrument decontamination, protective equipment and robust clinical procedures.
Why Infection Prevention Week matters today
IIPW provides an important opportunity to raise awareness of the role infection control plays in protecting patients and healthcare professionals. In dental and medical environments, preventing cross-contamination is essential to safe patient care.
Clinical instruments, work surfaces and frequently touched equipment can contribute to the transmission of harmful microorganisms if they are not cleaned and disinfected appropriately. Consistent infection prevention procedures help reduce these risks, protect staff and patients, and support confidence in healthcare services.
Effective infection control also relies on more than products alone. Staff training, correct product selection, adherence to manufacturers’ instructions and established decontamination protocols are all essential components of good clinical practice.
Infection control with Bossklein
At Topdental, we have been developing and manufacturing infection control products since 2001. Through our Bossklein brand, we provide a comprehensive range of hygiene and disinfection solutions designed for dental and medical environments.
Our portfolio includes surface disinfectants, disinfectant wipes, instrument cleaners and disinfectants, and specialist hygiene products, helping dental professionals maintain high standards of clinical hygiene as part of their everyday routines.
