Topdental Company History
Topdental was formed as a small, family run business more than 20 years ago, in 2001. Initially setup to directly supply the UK dental industry with a wide range of different clinical products, including disinfectants and other cleaning solutions. It wasn’t long before the decision was taken to focus on infection control and begin formulating and manufacturing own brand chemical disinfectants. The first product launched was a Topdental branded surface disinfectant spray.
As the company grew, further products were added to the infection control range to create a full selection of disinfection and cleaning products to cover all requirements for the modern dental practice. This included surface disinfectant sprays and wipes, instrument cleaners and disinfectants, dental impression disinfectants, suction/aspirator cleaning and disinfection products plus cleaners and sanitisers for hands.
After strong initial success with the Topdental and Bossklein hygiene branded products, a private label manufacturing service was developed and offered to other healthcare companies. This enabled others to benefit from the experience and knowledge that had been gained in relation to everything related to clinical hygiene. Soon products were being produced for all types of companies and clinical brands across the world.
Next came multiple years of continuous economic and reputational growth for Topdental within the dental sector. Rapidly outgrowing the current facility located in Bradford, West Yorkshire, decisions were made to invest and expand to facilitate further product expansion and capacity.
In 2009 Topdental moved in a brand-new purpose built 5400 sq ft building, allowing room to expand not only the product range and capacity but also the workforce.
The business continued to go from strength to strength, with an increase in both customer base technical abilities and the launch of the unique, concentrated cartridge based Virofex alcohol free surface disinfectant. It wasn’t very long before, once again, Topdental had outgrown its premises and needed to increase production capacity. So, in August 2012, moved just two miles down the road to Silsden, West Yorkshire and established the Topdental HQ.
Based on the edge of the stunning Yorkshire Dales in a stylish and modern, climate-controlled building with excellent geographical links to both local and international transport networks via Leeds/Bradford or Manchester Airports. The Topdental HQ is a custom built 32,000 sq ft office, production, and warehouse space. The facility includes also dedicated production areas, formulation / blending facilities, and an in-house laboratory for both research and development and product testing.
In-house product development, graphics team, label printing and designated areas of manufacture, Topdental truly can cater to all Medical Device disinfectant companies around the world. Working with both smaller and some of the largest Dental/Medical companies in both Europe and across the globe has given Topdental a well-respected position in the field of infection control.
The products manufactured by Topdental follow strict assessment by notified body SGS https://www.sgs.com/en following which a CE mark can be applied appropriately. Topdental have been certified by a notified body since the beginning and maintained this throughout the business growth, this ensures the products can be marketed in the EU and therefore worldwide.
As the company expansion progressed the Topdental decided to enhance its Quality Management System and applied for further voluntary certification. In November 2013 the company received ISO 13485 accreditation which further demonstrates ability to manufacture and provide medical devices that consistently meet customers’ expectations and regulatory requirements.
There have been many milestones achieved throughout the business since it was incorporated in 2001. Over this time, Topdental has moved from outsourced formulation blending to in-house formulation blending, a dedicated on-site Research & Development team, in-house labelling facilities and the move from manual manufacturing to semi-automated systems.
The company which began as a family-owned business now prides itself on becoming a corporate establishment as of 2015 when Topdental joined the Directa Dental Group.
